The newly appointed Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Maj. Gen. Ibrahim Attahiru, has given Nigerians assurance that the war against the dreaded Boko Haram insurgents will soon be a thing of the past.

Attahiru, who spoke on Monday while addressing journalists during an on the spot assessment visit to the Nigerian Army Special Super Camp One in Ngamdu, Borno State, added that the Nigerian Army will partner with Cameroonian and Chadian troops to take the fight to the insurgents as well as deal with other security challenges in the country.

The COAS who explained the rationale behind the visit, said he wanted to find out what the troops were going through and assess their problems with a view to articulating measures to resolving them.

“I have met commanders and received briefs, and they told me exactly what their critical requirements are. The emphasis is on military effectiveness. We want to bring this war to an end soonest,” Attahiru said.

He noted that the Nigerian Army, under his watch, will continue to leverage on the successes recorded under ‘Operation Tura Takai Bango’ to ensure a total annihilation of Boko Haram terrorists in Nigeria.

“We are bringing out things as we want to leverage on the successes being recorded under ‘Operation Tura Takai Bango’ and ensure total annihilation of Boko Haram in Nigeria.

“It is not just in the North-East theatre, we are equally ensuring that our operations are effective in other parts of Nigeria. We will ensure that people do their work properly, so that the insecurity will be a thing of the past.

“I see this war ending soon, so that all of us can go back and stay with our families. The successes recorded recently by ‘Operation Tura Takai Bango’ shall be cashed in to bring an end to the insurgency.

“This war will be brought to an end soon. We shall do this in tandem with the forces from the Republic of Cameroon. We shall be bringing in the Çhadians to ensure the annihilation of the insurgents in the North-East soonest.

“The Commander-in-Chief is very much interested in what goes on in the theatre of operation in the North-East and indeed any other theatre where our troops are deployed, so that first-hand information gets to him. We will strive and ensure that problems are resolved for the overall success of the Nigerian Army and Nigeria,” he added.
