Nigerian Budget Office Refutes Corruption Allegations

The Budget office of the Federation has denied in its entirety a report by a Nigerian Newspaper(Not EmergencyDigest) that it’s Director General is being investigated for corrupt practices.

On Monday, February 1, the media had reported that the Head of Service was probing corrupt practices by top officials in the Budget Office of Federation (BoF), including its Director General.

It reported that Sanusi Bilkisu, a level 14 officer and Polytechnic Desk Expenditure Officer in the Budget Office, had filed a petition to the Head of Service noting “colossal anomalies and corrupt practices” in the unit.

Bilkisu said the Director General greeted her appeals with inactions. And when she wrote to the DG Budget office that the Federal Polytechnic Kaduna file was retrieved from her “in a surreptitious manner,” a letter was issued to her alleging misconduct.

The Budget office deemed the publication refering to it as malicious, misleading and the handiwork of mischief makers.

According to the Budget Office PRO, Afolabi Olajuwon, the claims made by Bilkisu were investigated each time by the Budget Office but found little truth to it.

“At the end, it was discovered that the petitioner’s grouse was that her supervisor had reassigned some of the agencies under her schedule. Incidentally, she sent the same petition to the ICPC, which also investigated it and found no merit,” Afolabi said.

Afolabi said Bilkisu’s allegations could be a personal vendetta against the Director-General and the organisation because her allegations lacked fact to back it.

“It is noteworthy that her allegation against DG is that he did not act on her petition, not any corrupt act on his part,” Afolabi added.
