SAEMA 2020: NSCDC’s Agro Ranger Bags Crime Prevention Award
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has bagged the best agency in Crime Prevention at the annual Security and Emergency Management Awards (SAEMA) 2020.
NSCDC is a para-military agency of the Government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria that is commissioned to provide measures against threat and any form of attack or disaster against the nation and its citizenry. The corps is statutorily empowered by lay Act No. 2 of 2003 and amended by Act 6 of 4th June 2007.
The activities of Agro-Ranger Squad earned NSCDC the SAEMA 2020 award in the category of crime prevention. The Squad which was established by the current Commandant General has not only helped reduce the rate of crime but also helped in dislodging several bandits’ camps. Not just that, the Squad has been instrumental to the successful rescue of hostages from kidnappers as well ensuring the return of farmers to their farms against the threat of herdsmen, especially in North-Central.
Appointed in July 2015 by President Muhammadu Buhari, Abdullahi Gana Muhammadu, psc, mni, is the 2nd substantive Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps- a paramilitary agency of the Federal Government of Nigeria under the Ministry of Interior.
On assumption of office, Mr Muhammadu promptly embarked on an agenda-setting aimed towards, repositioning and redefining the mandate of the Corps in line with global practices. In so doing, he has displayed uncommon courage, doggedness, integrity in public life, and a high quality of administrative correctness. He has through his passion and hard work brought credibility to the Civil Defence Corps.
Being a pioneer member of the management team who rose through the ranks, Abdullahi Gana Muhammadu brings his wealth of experience to bear on the administration of the Civil Defence Corps. Indeed, the erstwhile Commandant General of the Corps, Dr. Ade Abolurin (OFR) saw him as a veritable tool in the growth and development of the Civil Defence Corps.
As a strong believer in the power of education, he has attended several national and international training programmes that have helped him with the knowledge and competence to perform excellently on the job. He has recorded giant strides in the various areas of the Corps mandate.
• The protection of critical national assets and infrastructure of the Federal Government – electricity, oil and oil products etc e.g. vandals caught by NSCDC.
• He has worked assiduously to help curb the insurgency of Boko Haram by providing over 5,000 trained personnel.
• He has achieved national coverage by ensuring the presence of NSCDC in all 774 LGA’s in Nigeria.
• Established 5000 Agro Rangers Unit to protect investments in the Agro-Allied sector of the economy.
• He has sanitized the Private Guard Security Companies by increasing licensing, monitoring, and ensuring professionalism in the operations of the sector.
As a visionary leader and a team player, the Commandant General who holds a Master’s Degree in Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice from the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, has also set the machinery in motion to build synergy and technical partnership with other countries.
Abdullahi Gana Muhammadu is a detribalized Nigerian, a peacemaker, a consummate believer in service delivery and the principle of Federal Character. Above all, he is a perfect example of humility and integrity in service, and exemplary gentleman office of the Corps.
