Samuel Aruwan Bags SAEMA’s Crisis Manager of the Year

The pioneer Commissioner of Internal Security and Home Affairs in Kaduna State, Samuel Aruwan has bagged the award of Crisis Manager of the Year at the annual Security and Emergency Management Awards (SAEMA) 2020 in Abuja.

As the pioneer Commissioner Internal Security and Home Affairs in Kaduna State, Samuel Aruwan deployed crisis communication strategies in addressing most tension over herdsmen-farmers conflicts and the ethno-religious crises in the state. He successfully brokered peace in the crisis-torn Doka Community in Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna Central Senatorial district of the state; the much needed peace talk which was held despite COVID-19 challenges facilitated an atmosphere of understanding in Doka Community. Clashes between Fulani, a majority Muslim and herder group in the state and Adara, a predominantly Christian and farming group, prompted the state government to hold a stakeholders’ meeting on April 26.

The meeting, initiated and chaired by Aruwan, included high-level security officers, ‎community leaders, Religious leaders and youth leaders also attended.

Religious tolerance was a key theme of the discussion, as well as each group’s need for support from other tribes in the area.

Samuel Aruwan is a trained journalist and pioneer Commissioner for Kaduna State Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs. He was the Spokesman of the Government and Governor of Kaduna State from 2015 till date. An investigative journalist with a background in security and issues related to religious extremism in Northern Nigeria is currently working on many initiatives to tackle the security challenges assailing Kaduna State.

Samuel Aruwan hails from Kabala West in Tudun Wada, Kaduna South Local Government Area of Kaduna State in Northern Nigeria. He is a graduate of Mass Communication from Kaduna Polytechnic. In 2012, he attended the School of Journalism, University of Witwatersrand, South Africa, for further training on African Investigative Reporting.

He was one of the Nigerian journalists trained on Countering Religious Extremism at the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change, London in 2014 and at the Drew University’s Institute on Religion and Conflict Transformation, New Jersey, USA in 2016.
