Zamfara govt reacts to audio of ex-IGP Abubakar renouncing membership of peace committee

The Zamfara State government has debunked an audio of a former Inspector General of Police, IGP, MD Abubakar, renouncing his membership of the peace committee set up towards finding lasting solutions to banditry in the state.

A statement by the governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Communications, Zailani Bappa, said the audio which claims to be the voice of the ex-IGP holding a meeting with Governor Bello Matawalle and members of the committee is once again being re-circulated in the social media.

Recall that when the audio first surfaced, Mr Abubakar had denied resigning his membership, stressing that the audio was not his voice.

He further warned that mischief-makers should desist from dragging neutral-minded people into unnecessary political crises with the state government.

Meanwhile, the state government regarded the resurfaced audio as an unprofessionally fabricated audio.

The statement lamented the audio’s generation of interest to social media users, including conventional media warranting the former IG to distance himself from the audio in question.

Again, Mr Abubakar denied ever holding such a meeting with anyone.

He noted that he had responsible and acceptable ways of relating with constituted authority not the social media.

He said: “The audio indicated three persons as part of the meeting who are not members of the committee in question.

“One of the persons who is a member of the committee also denied ever attending such a meeting and even threatened legal action.

“Understandably, those who were not in the picture of what happened before are now taking interest in its presence on the net.”

The state government, therefore, called on relevant security operatives to fish out the originators of this lie and bring them to book.

According to them, it is capable of compromising the fragile peace in the state.

The state government also advised the former IG to take legal action against the perpetrators of this mischief against him.

According to the statement, its being repeatedly used is capable of discrediting and dwarfing his person and reputation as well.
