Troops Nab 2 for Allegedly Killing Benue Lawyer, Wife
Troops of the Nigerian military have neutralized one armed bandit and captured two others at Anguwa-Onmbaagbu general area of Benue State.
The criminals are linked to the assassination of a Makurdi-based lawyer and his wife.
Before one of them was killed and the rest were arrested, Maj. Gen. John Enenche, said the bandits had engaged the troops in a fire fight, but were overwhelmed by the troops’ superior firepower.
Enenche, Coordinator of the Defence Media Operations (DMO), disclosed this at a media briefing on Thursday, at the Defence Headquarters (DHQ), in Abuja.
He said troops captured some arms and ammunition from the criminals during the encounter.
According to the DMO Coordinator, troops’ activities have drastically reduced pipeline vandalism and other criminal activities in the South West.
Between 17 to 23 December, Gen. Enenche, said a total of 92 bags of 50kg foreign parboiled rice, 1,500 litres of PMS and 79 bales of fairly used cloths were intercepted.
“Also, 2 smugglers were arrested and handed over to appropriate prosecuting agency for further action,” he added.
