Troops Foil Jos Robbery Attack, Eliminate ISWAP Terrorists
Troops of Operation Safe Haven on Wednesday foiled a robbery attack on innocent residents in Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The Defence Headquarters (DHQ), in a statement, said the troops, on a night patrol, came in contact with suspected armed robbers, along Angul Maraban Jama’a road in Barkin Ladi.
One armed robber, according to the statement issued by the Coordinator, Defence Media Operations (DHQ), Maj. Gen. John Enenche, was neutralized by troops, during the encounter.
Items recovered in his possession was one locally-fabricated pistol, while others escaped with gunshot wounds.
Enenche, also revealed that the Air Task Force of Operation Lafiya Dole, neutralized several Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) elements, and destroyed their hideouts at Ngwuri Gana, along the Gulumba Gana-Kumshe axis, as well as at Tumbuma Baba on the fringes of Lake Chad, in Borno State.
Disclosing this in a separate press release, he said, this was achieved through air strikes executed yesterday, as part of a new subsidiary Operation, tagged “Wutar Tabki II”.
According to him, series of aerial surveillance missions had indicated that the two locations, with structures and logistics items camouflaged under dense vegetation, were being used as staging areas, where some ISWAP leaders and their fighters meet to plan and launch attacks.
Said the DMO Coordinator: “The coordinated attacks launched by the Air Task Force, employing an enhanced force package of Nigerian Air Force (NAF) fighter jets and helicopter gunships, resulted in the destruction of some of the terrorists’ structures, as well as the neutralization of several ISWAP fighters.”
