Battalion Troops Rescue Abducted Women, Children in N/East

Troops of 251 Task Force Battalion in Borno State have rescued unhurt two women and three children kidnapped by Boko Haram terrorists.

The troops, deployed at Strong Response Area Molai, acted on credible intelligence and intercepted some Boko Haram criminals, together with relations of the kidnapped persons.

The relations, it was learnt, were about making efforts to pay a ransom of 2,000,000 to the terrorists.

But the Defence Headquarters (DHQ), in a statement signed by Brig. Gen. Bernard Onyeuko, said troops engaged the terrorists, forcing them to abort the collection of the payment, as well as abandoned their captives.

“In the aftermath of the decisive encounter, One Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorist was neutralized while others escaped with gunshot wounds. One AK 47 Rifle and one Motorcycle were recovered,” part of the statement issued by Onyeuko, reads.

Gen. Onyeuko, Acting Director of the Defence Media Operations (DMO), also disclosed that troops of 202 Battalion, on 17 November 2020, conducted a successful ambush operation, along one of the criminals crossing point.

Following the operation, he said, one Boko Haram criminal was neutralized, while several others escaped with varying degrees of gunshot wounds, under the cover of darkness.
