Kidnappers reportedly kill Army colonel after payment of N10m ransom

An army colonel, SB Onifade, who was abducted along the dreaded Abuja-Kaduna Expressway, has been reportedly killed by his abductors despite payment of N10million ransom.

Mr Onifade, a consultant gynaecologist, was abducted near Olam Farm area while traveling at night on September 27.

It was gathered that the Nigerian Army had launched sterenous rescue operation for the officer, while negotiation for the ransom was ongoing.

Credible sources told DAILY NIGERIAN that Mr Onifade was killed on Saturday despite payment of the N10million ransom by family and friends.

Spokesman for the Nigerian Army, Colonel Sagir Musa, did not respond to calls.

The Abuja-Kaduna expressway is notorious for kidnapping activities despite security patrol around the hotspots.

In April 2019, Inspector-General of Police Mohammed Adamu launched “Operation Puff Adder” to tackle banditry and kidnapping activities in Kogi, Katsina, Niger and Zamfara.

As part of the operation, police personnel were also massively deployed to secure the Abuja-Kaduna Highway.
