SARS instrumental to restoration of peace in Zamfara – Matawalle

Governor Bello Matawalle of Zamfara State has said that the now-disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, of the Nigeria Police Force was instrumental to the restoration of peace in the once banditry-ravaged state.

The governor’s position was contained in a statement on Thursday by his Special Adviser on Media and Communications, Zailani Bappa, issued after a security meeting convoked by the 19 Northern state governors in Kaduna.

He said: “We have recorded tremendous development in the area of peacebuilding in Zamfara State as a result of the commitment, professional contribution and support of the FSARS of the Nigeria Police Force.”

According to him, the sudden scrapping of the police unit is amounting to throwing away the baby along with the bathwater.

“I will personally seek an audience with Mr President on this issue. We need the FSARS or its equivalence in Zamfara State because we have seen their positive impact in spite of their alleged excesses,” Mr Matawalle stressed.

Recall that the governor had earlier thrown his weight of support behind the SARS police bore they were disbanded by President Muhammadu Buhari.
