Website, Book on Distinguished Nigerians @60 Set for Unveiling

The website for ‘Nation Builders at 60’, a special publication aimed at celebrating outstanding individuals who have distinguished themselves in various fields of endeavors and contributed immensely to the Nigerian project, since independence, has been unveiled.

Project 60@60, an advocacy group established for Nigeria’s Diamond Jubilee celebration, noted that the selected eminent personalities share a common bond with Nigeria by their birth in 1960, the year the country gained independence from the British colonial rule.

It added that the shortlisted 60 Nigerians featured in Project 6060 compendium have distinguished themselves through diligence, hard work, and patriotism to their fatherland and most importantly, contributed immensely to national development.

Chairman of the group, Dr. Abubakar Mohammed, at a press conference in Abuja, disclosed that the book version of the ‘Nation Builders at 60’ will be launched in November, 2020.

According to him, the publication is aimed at educating citizens about the rich and diverse cultures, together with invaluable experiences of the outstanding figures.

Said Dr. Mohammed: “The objective is to understand one another so that we can live together peacefully as a country. The publication will help to promote mutual understanding, foster inter-group harmony and tolerance, advance national cohesion and integration, and encourage peaceful co-existence, as well as inspire the younger generation. “Celebrating Nigeria: The Nation Builders at 60”, celebrates the gorgeous mosaic that is Nigeria.”

While recalling that Nigeria was a founding member of the Organisation of African Unity (OAU) which is now known as the African Union (AU), the Project 60@60 Chairman, also said through its strong military force, Nigeria spearheaded the founding of ECOMOG, which oversaw military assistance in Liberia and Sierra Leone.

The 60 eminent Nigerians identified by the group include ex-IGP Mohammed Dahiru Abubakar; Lt. Gen. Tukur Yusufu Buratai, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS); Mrs. Zainab Shamshuna, Minister of Finance; Sen. Oluremi Tinubu; Sen. Ahmed Yarima Bakura, ex-Zamfara State Governor; Dr. Mohammed Kyari Dikwa,mni, retired Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Finance;late Jaafar Mahmud Adam, a revered Islamic cleric; Dele Momodu; media mogul; and Abdulsamad Isyaka Rabiu, acclaimed business tycoon.

Others are Gov. Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State; Prof. Charles Soludo, former CBN Governor; Senator Chimaroke Nnamani, ex-Enugu State Governor; Dr. Umar Ardo; Ned Nwoko; Mallam Garba Shehu, AVM Sadiqque Baba Abubakar, Chief of Air Staff (CAS); Dr. Wale Babalakin; Sen. Kabiru Marafa; late Sheikh Muhammad Auwal Albani; and Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq of Kwara State, among several others.
