Gunmen raid Rivers communities, kill two chiefs, three others

Gunmen suspected to be cultists, on Monday, raided the Luebe community in the Khana Local Government Area of Rivers State, and murdered a chief and three others.

The gunmen thereafter attacked the nearby Loore community and killed another young chief identified as Ajeboy around 12am on Tuesday.

It was gathered that Ajeboy was made a chief after his father died sometime last year.

An eyewitness, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the attacks followed a rumour, which allegedly emanated from the communities, that an ex-militant leader, Solomon Ndigbara, was dead.

The eyewitness added that the gunmen stormed Luebe and were shooting indiscriminately to express their displeasure, and in the process, shot dead the chiefs and three boys.

The source stated, “We believe that the gunmen were members of the Icelanders Confraternity; they attacked Luebe community in the late hours of Monday and killed three boys.

“Around 12am on Tuesday, they continued their shooting spree and killed a chief from the community.

“They were angry that a rumour started from the community that Solomon Ndigbara was dead, whereas he is alive.”

When contacted, the spokesman for the Rivers State Police Command, Nnamdi Omoni, said he had yet to be briefed about the incident.
