Military Restrategizing to Fight Insurgency, Banditry–Olonisakin
The Nigerian military is constantly restrategizing on ways of fighting terrorism, banditry and other forms of criminality.
One of such ways is the Super Camp concept, says the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Abayomi Gabriel Olonisakin.
He made this known in Katsina State, when he paid an operational visit to the Nigerian Army (NA) Super Camp 4 in Faskari.
According to a statement by the Acting Director, Defence Media Operations (DMO), Brig. Gen. Bernard Onyeuko, the CDS received information and operation brief on Operation Sahel Sanity, during the visit.
Onyeuko, said the CDS was accompanied on the trip by the representatives of the Chief of Naval Staff and the Chief of Air Staff.
Gen. Olonisakin, commended the leadership of NA for the establishment of the Super Camp.
“I want to congratulate you for the successful completion of the Nigerian Army Day Celebration (NADCEL) 2020 and the flagging off of Operation Sahel Sanity to completely rid the entire North West zone of the country of banditry, cattle rustling and other forms of criminality,” he said.
The CDS, also pledged the support of the Defence Headquarters to NA in its operations.
While commending the soldiers for their resilience, Olonisakin, equally paid special tribute to officers and men who have continued to make sacrifices in the defence of the nation.
Welcoming the CDS, Lt. Gen. Tukur Yusuf Buratai, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), informed him of the tremendous achievement of Operation Sahel Sanity within the short period of its flag off.
Buratai, mentioned the rescue of kidnapped victims, neutralization of some armed bandits and recovery arms and ammunition, more than 700 cattle and over 500 sheep.
These achievements, he said, has helped the locals to go about their normal economic and agricultural activities without any hindrance.
The COAS, thanked Gen. Olonisakin for finding time to visit the troops in the frontline.
