‘I Carry GPMG, Collects 100,000 Per Operation’–Sokoto Bandit Confesses

A suspected bandit, Ibrahim Alhassan, has confessed to be the one in charge of carrying a General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG) for the Kachalla bandit group, whenever they go for rustling operation.

He said he is also on the payroll of the criminal group, and regularly collects N100,000 after every operation.

Alhassan, made the confession after troops of Operation Hadarin Daji, on routine patrol at Kwaren Ganuwa area in Sokoto State, arrested him on Tuesday.

The suspect, according to a statement by the Coordinator of the Defence Media Operations (DMO), Maj. Gen. John Enenche, is presently in the custody of troops, as further investigation continues.

Meanwhile, Enenche, in the statement, disclosed that troops of Operation Hadarin Daji, under Operation Accord, acting on actionable, human and technical intelligence, on Tuesday, made contact with bandits at Sabon Birni Local Government Area (LGA) of the State.

He said, adopting aggressive tactical manoeuvres, troops engaged the cowardly bandits and neutralized two of them, while an unconfirmed number fled with gun shots wounds due to troops superior firepower.

Maj. Gen. Enenche, equally said that on 8 July 2020, troops acted on credible intelligence on movement of bandits with large number of rustled animals from Jangemi village forest to Kwaren Ganuwa axis.

According to him, troops immediately mobilized and intercepted bandits at Bawaganga village.

“But on sighting troops, the bandits fled towards Muhaye forest and abandoned 250 cows and 150 rams. The recovered animals are currently in custody,” he said.

The DMO Coordinator, in the statement, added: “In another development, troops of operation HADARIN DAJI under subsidiary Operation SAHEL SANITY while on patrol along road Unguwan Doka- Sabon Layi in Faskari LGA of Katsina State intercepted 3 armed bandits thereby neutralizing one while others escaped with gun shots wounds.”

In the process, Gen. Enenche, said one AK-47 rifle and one motorcycle were recovered.
