Many feared killed in Adamawa communal conflict

A violent conflict between two tribes in Lafia, a commercial town in the Adamawa State border with Gombe, has caused the death of unspecified number of residents.

Our correspondent gathered on Wednesday that people of Lunguda tribe and their Waja counterparts in Lafiya engaged in an overnight blood letting and destruction of valuable properties.

Sources said that by the time security operatives intervened to stop the violence, many had died while homes, domestic animals and other valuables were left in waste.

The sources said the gory outcome of the violence scarred virtually every resident of affected communities out, leaving Lafia, an otherwise bustling town a ghost of itself.

Lafia is in Lamurde, a local government area in Adamawa State where a similar communal clash (in Tingno) caused the death of many people only last month.

Villages said to have been badly affected in the latest clash include Momsurmi, Boshikiri, Zakawon and Burti.

The Lafia conflict was said to have been sparked by dispute over farmland ownership between the warring tribes.

The State Government and security high command responded to the Lafia violence by visiting the place
