Coronavirus cases in Africa now 36,847

Africa recorded 1,589 deaths from the SARS-Cov-2 coronavirus and today recorded 36,847 patients across the continent, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

In the 52 countries affected by the pandemic, an increase in the number of patients who have recovered has been reported, with the latest update showing that 12,071 patients have been recovered from the disease.

North Africa is the continent’s worst affected, followed in decreasing order by West, South, East and Central Africa.

Algeria reported the highest number of deaths with 444 people, while the figure for Morocco was 168.

For its part, Egypt suffered 380 deaths and South Africa 103 people died as a result of infection with the coronavirus, although both countries recorded more than 5,300 cases.

‘In East Africa, Djibouti, a country of less than one million people, recorded 1,100 cases compared to its much larger neighbor, Ethiopia, which, with a population of 110 million, recorded 130 cases,’ compared media reports.

For its part, Kenya today registered 396 cases of Covid-19, 17 deaths and a total of 144 patients recovered from the pandemic, reported Health Secretary Rashid Aman.

In the last 24 hours, it was confirmed that seven of the new cases of Covid-19 are from Mombasa, three from Nairobi, one from Wajir, the first in that region, and one from Kitui, while the sick in that capital are reported in Eastleigh, Fedha and Kileleshwa.

In West Africa, Nigeria registered 1,728 positive cases on Thursday, after 196 people were infected in the last 24 hours.
