How Troops Recovered 600 Cattle, Kill Bandits, Free 12 Captive

Bandits in Nigeria may have persisted in their illicit and terror-inducing trade.

But over the week, in Kaduna and several communities in Zamfara State, they met their waterloo.

It was a job welldone and mission perfectly accomplished for the troops who gallantly executed successful missions in Operations Hadarin Daji and Subsidiary Operation Chingaba.

In the aftermath of a patrol at Nasarrawa Village, close to Tunga Haki in Gusau Local Government Area of Zamfara, troops of Operation Hadarin Daji recovered 600 cows and 300 sheep .

The troops, according to Brigadier General Bernard Onyeuko, also intercepted nine suspected bandits, who confessed to have rustled the animals.

He said the dare-devil rustlers were proceeding to Zaria to avert possible arrest by troops.

Brig. Gen. Onyeuko, who is the Acting Director of the Directorate of Defence Media Operations (DDMO), disclosed this in a statement, saying the recovered animals are currently in the custody of troops.

He pointed out that the animals are currently in the custody of troops of Operation Hadarin Daji.

“Proper handover will be done after investigation, in conjunction with local authorities to confirm the owners,” Onyeuko assured.

The DDMO Acting Director, who explained that troops of the same Operation Hadarin Daji, also in Zamfara closed up on bandits in a subsidiary operation Chingaba in the past week, said 12 civilians kidnapped by the bandits, including the District Head of Wuya, were all freed and have been united with their families.

“Also, in other clearance operations conducted at Gidan Usman, Gidan Babagoji, Gadauna, Gidan Janari, Kekuwaje, Gidan Sarki, Gardi and Bingi all in Bungudu Local Government Area of Zamfara State, troops killed 9 Bandits and arrested 14, as well as 13 houses of the bandits were cleared and set ablaze by troops,” the DDMO spokesperson added.

Brig. Gen. Onyeuko, further said a total of 67 cattle rustled by the bandits were recovered and handed over to the district heads of the communities.

At Julee Village, he noted that troops of Operation Hadarin Daji, engaged some bandits who attacked and rustled goats.

He said after the bandits came under the fierce firepower of the troops, they abandoned the goats and fled into the forest.

Onyeuko, explained that the troops recovered the goats and handed them over to the owners.

“Furthermore, the Nigerian military, in conjunction with other security agencies conducted an assault operation at Gabyer Village in Bugundu Local Government Area of Zamfara State, on 28 March 2020. The troops came in contact with armed bandits and after a fire-fight, the armed bandits withdrew in disarray into the forest. Exploitation was carried out by the land component after own aggressor aircraft had engaged fleeing bandits,” he further disclosed.

Brig. Gen. Onyeuko, assured that the Armed Forces of Nigeria will not relent in its resolve to restore peace, law and order across the country.
