After scrambling fighter jets, Troops strikes Insurgents in Sambisa

Troops of the Operation Lafiya Dole (OLD), on Friday, neutralized and killed several Boko Haram terrorists at Valangide, an area inhabited by insurgents, in Sambisa Forest.

The combat mission was in continuation of subsidiary Operation DECISIVE EDGE in the North East.

Acting Director of the Directorate of Defence Media Operations (DDMO), Brigadier General Bernard Onyeuko, who disclosed this in a statement, said the ODL air component troops scrambled their fighter jets to level the terrorists’ hideouts after an Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) aircraft spotted and tracked some terrorists to compounds within the settlement.

According to Brig. Gen. Onyeuko, the insurgents, who resided in well-developed structures at Valangide, were subsequently eliminated, even as their structures and logistics supplies were destroyed by airstrikes of the troops’ fighter jets.

“The jets were vectored to the target by the ISR aircraft, with their ammunition making direct hits in the target area, neutralizing some of the BHTs and damaging some of their dwellings, some which were seen engulfed in flames,” he said.

The DDMO Acting Director, stressed that troops will continue to sustain the offensive against terrorists, till peace and security are restored in the North East.
