Shiites protest Soleimani’s death in Kano, demands El-Zakzaky’s release
Members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) on Tuesday protested the killing of top Iranian military Commander, Qassem Soleimani by the United States of America.
They also used the procession to protest governments’ continued detention of their leader, Sheikh Ibrahim El-Zakzaky.
The protesters, mostly youths and children, marched through Kofar Famfo, Bayero University Old Campus and Kabuga in Kano Metropolis.
The protesting Shiites were carrying posters of the late Gen. Soleimani alongside their leader, Sheikh Ibrahim El-Zakzaky and were chanting, ‘Death to America’, ‘Death to Israel’, ‘freedom for Zakzaky,’ ‘Criminal Buhari,’ and ‘freedom for Zakzaky’ among others.
One of the protesters who refused to identify himself said, “we are here to protest America’s act of terrorism against Iran by killing it’s top commander. This is an act that we expect any right thinking country to condemn strongly.”

He further called for the release of their detained leader vowing that they would continue to protest until justice is done.
Leader of the procession who identified himself as Abdul Sheriff alias AZ Virus said they were out to protest what they called ‘injustice in the world’ as a whole, stressing that that they would never stop protesting till the end of their life.
While condemning the continuous detention of Sheik Zakzaky since Buhari’s emergence as the President, the protest leader warned that they would never get away with injustice, noting that they are not afraid of death as long as injustice continues.
Recall that on Friday, the US launched a military strike on Baghdad airport, killing Gen. Qassem Soleimani on Friday.
General Soleimani, an iconic figure in Iran, is revered for his leadership in the fight against ISIS in Iraq. He was considered one of the most powerful figures in Iran, and played a prominent role in Iran’s foreign policy in the Middle East over the last decade.
The US Defence Department said it took out Soleimani as he travelled in a car near Baghdad International Airport because he “was actively developing plans to attack American diplomats and service members in Iraq and throughout the region.”
