Fire Disaster: Kwande Commiserates With Katako Market Traders
Immediate past member of the House of Representatives and Executive Board Member of Nigerian Football Federation (NFF), Hon. Suleiman Yahaya Kwande, has commiserated with traders at Katako Market in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The market was gutted by fire on Wednesday night.
NewsDigest gathered that several shops were burnt to ashes and properties worth millions of naira lost to the inferno.
The NFF Chieftain, in a statement issued through his media aide Usama Jaafar, called on the government to provide fire service departments with requisite state-of the-arts fire-fighting equipment close to the market.
This, he said, will enable fire service officials to quickly respond effectively during fire outbreaks.
He emphasized the need for government to constitute a special task force that will be saddled with the responsibility of investigating cases of incessant fire disasters and infernos in public places.
The former lawmaker, appealed to the State Government and other corporate bodies to come to the aid of the affected traders by providing them with special grants in order for them to revive their businesses, while also sustaining their livelihoods.
It would be recalled that Hon. Kwande donated five hundred thousand Naira (N500,000) cash to the victims of Katako Yan-buhu Market inferno in November, 2013.
He respectively donated 50 bundles of zinc and 40 bags of nails in 2014, for the reconstruction of the razed market.
Also in 2014, the philantropic Kwande, donated about 30 bundles of zinc and 30 bags of nails at Yangaro, all in popular Katako Market.
