Sowore: Intelligence officials speak on report of alleged Court order jailing DSS Boss

The Department of State Services (DSS) has denied the false publication making the rounds in the media that its Director General (DG), Alhaji Yusuf Magaji Bichi, was committed to jail for contempt over alleged disobedience to an order by the Abuja Federal High Court, asking the intelligence agency to summarily release the detained convener of #RevolutionNow, Mr. Omoyele Sowore, and his co-detainee, Olawale Bakare.

Sources in the Federal High Court, refuted the report, saying it is false.

Credible sources in the security circle who spoke to Emergency Digest, but do not want their names mentioned, said the fake news is clearly designed to misinform the public.

They said “though the writers created the impression that the Court sat yesterday, the 25th of November, 2019, the fact remains that it never did”.

A Senior Counsel, in the Court, disclosed that the judge did not issue the misleading pronouncement reportedly carried by some section of the media.

He said, “that Sowore’s legal team filled, on 12th November, 2019, Form 48, otherwise a complaint form in the Court, does not suggest a committal of the DG to jail”.

He went further to say that “it should be noted that a petition for committal for contempt is not necessarily an order for contempt. It also does not amount to guilt for contempt. This is a major reason the media hype, in its entirety, should be disregarded”.

A top intelligence officer, in a chat with our correspondent, expressed displeasure as to why some media outfits with publish a fake news without first carrying out a detailed investigation.

The source, further noted that the publication should only be taken as a sensational writing and propaganda meant to put the DG in bad light, while also attempting to pre-empt the court.

It called on the media to remain neutral in the discharge of its responsibility of properly and truthfully informing the public and argued that the DG can press charges against the peddlers of the falsehood.
