Investigative Report: Release NewsDigest Editor, Webmaster now – NYCN warns Police
The National Youth Council of Nigeria has demanded the immediate release of the NewsDigest Editor, Gidado Yushau Shuaib and one Adebowale Adekoya.
Bello Bala Shagari, President of the Council made this known in a statement made available to Emergency Digest.
Mr Shagari who lamented the manner in which Gidado Yushau Shuaib and his webmaster were arrested by the personnel of the Nigerian Police Force.
He said “The manner in which the young journalist was reported to have been apprehended in a sting operation is unprofessional and unnecessary.”
“Mr Gidado is a reputable journalist who respects the rule of law and therefore an invitation would have been enough if it was necessary to investigate him on anything” Mr Shagari added.

Speaking on the reason for the arrest, Mr Shagari said “the journalist who was allegedly arrested because of exposing criminality especially on drugs, a problem which the the Government of President Muhammadu Buhari prioritize. Mr Gidado Yushau deserves accolades for helping the fight against drug abuse no matter who may be involved.”
“We therefore demand the immediate release of Mr Gidado Shuaib and other staffs of News Digest before the Nigerian Youth & Students resort into mass action against Kwara State Police Command” Mr Shagari said.
Emergency Digest reports that NewsDigest Editor, Gidado Yushau and Adebowale Adekoya were arrested in a gestapo-like style for publishing an investigative news story titled, “Inside Kwara factory where Indian hemp smoking is legalized”. The factory is allegedly owned by the former deputy Governor of CBN, Sarah Alade.
