CSOs Diaspora Forum Pass Vote of Confidence on Nigeria Security Services
EMERGENCY DIGEST – The Forum of Nigerians in Francophone speaking countries in the West and Central African region on tuesday commended the department of state security in Nigeria for being alive to her responsibilities as an institution focused on the preservation of national security. The views of the forum were conveyed in a communique at the end of her 59th independence anniversary reunion held at Hotel Tahiti Quarter Jak , Benin Republic and signed by its president, Dr Isaac Oduma .
The forum expressed abiding faith in the capacity of Nigeria’s security agencies particularly the department of the state security for her many years of dedicated service delivery to the nation. Hear him” the country is blessed with an outstanding institution in the the department of state security and above all a committed leadership that is passionate about new reforms and keeping to the objectives of the institution” the president of the forum further commended the sagacity and ingenuity of president Buhari for the supportive roles he has always played as the commander in chief of the republic of Nigeria.
The group noted with satisfaction that the country through the department of state security has been exceptionally professional in the handling of issues that would otherwise dismember the country if left unattended to. ” You will recall ladies gentlemen that about a two months ago, some citizens had put it on record to overthrow a legally constituted government in our country Nigeria and also disarm the department of state security” this to my knowledge, is the most deafening, unpatriotic and unwholesome intention I have ever heard since the return of democracy” and so, on behalf of the Nigerian people in the Francophone speaking countries in West and Central Africa, i must say we are totally satisfied and pleased with the proactive measures utilised by the state security service.
He noted that without the current proactive approach employed by the agency, no one would have guaranteed the country’s existence today as we celebrate 59 years of independence.
Our challenges are still much but the road to development is not by virtue of outlawing Society with her laws, conventions and values, he noted.
We have families and investments back home and to think a Nigerian whose family is nationalised in the United states and united kingdom would contemplate and fund a revolution for parochial interest is not only unfortunate but regrettably repugnant to the values we hold as Nigerians.
He said “Never in the history of our national existence has a government been overthrown through a forceful means in a democratic setting such as we have today and wondered why any sane mind would initiate or suggest that path just after losing an election”
The group said as diapora citizens, his group contributes the highest foreign investments back home to enhance the nations gross domestic product (GDP) and foreign reserves and therefore could not fold their arms to watch the country go down through illicit means.
The group insisted that the vote of confidence passed on the department of state security and her leadership was borne out of a deep sitted conviction of the majority of the members. It said the decision was made through her 37th resolution in the forum general assembly Holden in commemoration of the country’s 59 years independence anniversary.

The diaspora forum urged the leadership of other security agencies to emulate and compliment the department of state security Inspite of recurring blackmail and arm twisting by paid media and legal merchants whose interests are first before that of the national security.
Meanwhile in another development, the Conference of Harmonised Civil Society Organisations has urged the Department of State Security Services, DSS, to remain resolute on its stand in defending the nation’s sovereignty.
The CSOs at a rally on Monday in Abuja also paid tribute to other security formations for their diligence in securing lives and property.
Addressing the press on behalf of the 17 CSOs at the Unity Fountain, venue of the rally, the Convener, Save The State Movement, SSM, Comrade Semaka Solomon said the rally was necessary to assuage the barrage of false criticisms trailing the security agencies, particularly the DSS.
He alleged that many notable persons criticising the department of state security under the guise of human rights abuses, over what it described as the most legitimate, legal and proactive approach in recent times in defence of the country were sponsored by enemies of the state.
“The security agencies, particularly the department of state security have over the last five decades, dedicated to the protection of individuals, institutions, and the institution of state as one indivisible entity. The sovereignty of this nation has been zealously guarded by the department of state security in full complement of other sister agencies.
“This is the basis for our support to the organisation today because as representatives of the masses, our interest is protected by the activities of the department of state security and they must be commended. Nevertheless, our duty as society watch dogs remain sacrosanct as can be reflected in previous instances where we held the agency and other security agencies to account for their actions. We are proud to have overcome compromise. Today we are all united in solidarity only by the cord of national security which is under threat of few individuals.
“Ladies and gentlemen, recall that in the last couple of weeks, a lot of unpatriotic characters have been sponsored by unpatriotic elements in the country to cast spurious allegations against the department of state security, over what described as the most legitimate, legal and proactive approach in recent times in defence of the country.
One of such instances include: the arrest, detention, and prosecution of certain individuals who have put it on record for several times of their determination and resolve to overthrow a lawfully constituted government using force and other terror related antics. My dear compatriots, this is the highest level of treasonable felony and it behoves on us as Nigerians to rise in defence of our national unity and security once and for all.
“As civil society organisations, we have it on good authority that a certain Mr Omoloye Sowore was particularly given $3million as mobilisation to overthrow the legally constituted government of the Nigerian state. We have evidence to this. Nothing can be more treasonable than the betrayal of the entire country for pecuniary gains.
“Those, who in the aftermath of the glaring consequences of such unpardonable offence, whom because of personal interest, are playing the fundamental human rights and political cards need to be educated and this is the basis of this rally; to enlighten Nigerians on the implications of allowing the legal and media blackmail utilised by paid counsels and social media influencers to hoodwink Nigerians”.
