Akwa Ibom residents lament as cultists loot shops

Residents of Udoette Street and other adjoining streets around the University of Uyo in Akwa Ibom State have raised the alarm over persistent attacks and raiding of shop by gunmen suspected to be cultists.

It was gathered that the cultists on Monday raided shop owners around the university and its environ, spreading fear and tension.

In the attack, which occurred between 8 and 9pm, it was gathered that the hoodlums started the operations from Udoette Street and proceeded to Ituro, stealing money, phones, drinks and other valuable items from their victims .

A resident of Udoette, who pleaded not to be named, described the area as a den of cultists and called on security agencies to beam, searchlight on the place and rid the street of criminals.

The source said, “Udoette is a very dangerous area because of these cultists who are bent on robbing, raping and making life unbearable for us.

“Government should send in security men to these areas and nearby streets around the University of Uyo vicinity.”

The Police Public Relations Officers, Odiko Macdon, could not be reached for comments as his mobile phone rang out.
