Police confirm attack on Ishaku’s hometown

The police in Taraba State on Sunday confirmed an attack on Governor Darius Ishaku’s hometown of Takum by gunmen in the early hours of the day.

Police Public Relations Officer, DSP David Misal, who confirmed the attack, however, said the attackers were repelled and normalcy had since returned to the town.

“The attackers were repelled by the combined team of soldiers and police.

“For now, we don’t have the casualties figure. We are compiling casualty figures which will be released later.

“The situation is under control and Takum town is now calm,” he said.

Caretaker Chairman of Takum, Shiban Tikari did not pick his call, but somebody who identified himself as his personal aide, picked the call and said he was not aware of any attack in Takum.

“Hon. Shiban Tikari is in the barracks now. But to answer your question, there is no problem in Takum. I am not aware of any attack in Takum,” he said.

Member representing Takum 1 in the State House of Assembly, Hon. Garba Ajiya did not pick his calls.

Our correspondent gathered that gunmen invaded the town at about 9am while most people were still in church and shot sporadically.

Local residents told our correspondent that there were heavy gunshots in Takum as soldiers engaged the attackers.

The attack happened barely four days after gunmen killed a priest along Takum-Wukari road and set him ablaze.
