NEMA organize capacity building programme in Gusau

The National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, Sokoto Operations Office organized a retreat in other to brace up for emergencies by building staff capacity on professionalism and proactive emergency response.

The 2019 NEMA Staff Retreat held in Gusau, Zamfara State, with theme, “Re-Engineering the Agency for Effective and Proactive Disaster Management” is designed to prepare the staff to respond pro-actively and rapidly to any emergency situation.

The retreat is part of effort of Director General, Engr Mustapha Maihaja to re-position and re-engineer the organisation to be a standard emergency response and management entity.

Dr Kofoworola soleye, Director, NEMA Sokoto Operations Office, said the DG aim is to increase the capacity of the staff through training and retreats as such to share experiences and get more knowledge from some relevant stakeholders to see how all of us can together tackle disaster management.

“We aspire to be a more professional outfit and the whole idea is to boost the staff capacity to do more and elevate our current level of expertise. We can’t resist but continue to develop because techniques used to address and tackle disasters in the global arena.

The retreat will accord the staff the platform to understand the direction which the agency is heading, so that everyone will be able to fit in and key into a proactive disaster response entity” he said.
