Police mourn DCP Umar, arrest 12 violent protesters at Banex Abuja
The FCT Command of the Nigeria Police says it arrested 12embers of the Shiite movement, who were protesting at Banex Plaza in Abuja Tuesday.
A statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, DSP Anjuguri Manzah made available to DAILY NIGERIAN said the arrest was made while the Police were mourning the death of their colleague, DCP Usman Umar.
“While the police were mourning the death of patriotic and resourceful DCP Usman Umar who was killed on Monday during a violent protest by members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria, IMN, the attention of FCT Police Command was again drawn to a similar protest by the group today at Banex area, Abuja.
“The Police operatives moved swiftly to the scene and arrested twelve members of the sect,” it read.

Manzah stated that the Shiite members were arrested while they were allegedly attacking members of the public.
“The suspects were arrested while on the rampage attacking innocent members of the public, blocking roads and disrupting activities around the Banex area.
“The Police personnel drafted to the scene acted professionally by using minimum force to bring the situation under control and restore normalcy in the area.”
He added that the arrested suspects were being interrogated by detectives.
“The twelves suspects arrested are currently being interrogated by the team of police detectives,” the statement read.
The Command furthered assure members of the public that adequate measures had been made to beef up security in the Federal Capital Territory as well as protect lives and properties.
