Court remands man for allegedly raping child in Lagos

An Ikorodu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State, on Wednesday, demanded a 22-year-old man, Charles Ndubuisi, for allegedly defiling a nine-year-old girl.

The accused is to remain in prison pending legal advise from the State Directorate of Public Prosecution.

The police, however, charged Ndubuisi with indecent assault.

Refusing his plea, Chief Magistrate F.A. Azeez, ordered the police to send the case file to the office of the State Directorate of Public Prosecution(DPP) for legal advice.

She adjourned the case until Aug. 15, for mention.

Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Sgt. John Iberedem, told the court that the defendant committed the offence sometime in June, at Ogunwemoju Street; Kokoro Abu area of Ikorodu, at about 6: 50 p.m.

Iberedem said the offence contravened the provisions of Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

NAN reports that the defendant is liable to life imprisonment if found guilty.
