Gunmen murder CRUTECH’s Chief Architect
Unknown gunmen have murdered the Chief Architect of the Cross River University of Technology (CRUTECH) Calabar, Mr. Bassey Ekpenyong Inyang.
Mr. Inyang was murdered on Thursday night by suspected gunmen, who ambushed him and wife at their residence along New Airport by Abasi Orok, the Cross River State Police command said.
The late Chief Architect was until his death a staff of the Cross River University of Technology (CRUTECH), Works and Physical Planning unit department of the university.
An eyewitness, who pleaded not to be named, said that a six-man gang had arrived in a bus and parked close to the home of the former Secretary of Calabar South Local Government waiting for the victim.

“As he arrive his home at New Airport Road, Anantigha area of Calabar South, the gunmen came out from the bus, shot and killed him on the spot.”
Another eyewitness, who claimed to be a friend of the victim but pleaded for anonymity said, “The victim also known as Bachang was coming back with his wife but the suspected gunmen murdered him and snatched the phone of his wife before they escaped,” he stated.
Speaking on the issue, the Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Cross River State Police Command, DSP Irene Ugbo, confirmed the story, “The man and his wife were coming back from church when some people in a bus close to his house waylaid and attacked them. No arrest has been made. We are investigating the incident”.
The PPRO further said that the command had a breakthrough this morning (Friday). “We arrested two robbery suspects with a locally made pistol in Calabar South. They are currently in our custody. We are waiting for the DPO of Efut to transfer the case to State CID.”
