Buratai reveals sponsors of banditry, kidnapping across the country

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. Gen Tukur Yusuf Buratai has said the Nigerian Army is on top of the fight against Boko haram terrorists, kidnapping and banditry across the country.

Buratai who stated this at the Operation Lafiya Dole Theatre Command headquarters Maimalari Cantonment Maiduguri while briefing House of Representatives Committee on Army who were in Maiduguri on a 2-day legislative oversight function Wednesday, said despite the soft target attacks by the terrorists, the army has degraded their manpower and weapons.

He also assured them that the Nigerian Army will continue to pursue the terrorists until they are rid out of the country.

The COAS also appreciated the visit of the committee and assured them that their visits will definitely heighten the morale of the troops.

He however lamented that during and after the 2019 general elections, some political class have been fueling banditry and kidnapping among other crimes across the country.

He called on them to impress on their members and the upper chamber of the national assembly to appeal to the perpetrators to look at national interest first before their personal or political interest.

Earlier, the Chairman of the committee, Hon. Rimammade Shawulu Kwewum said they were in Maiduguri as part of their legislative oversight function to access activities of the Nigerian Army and receive briefings on the activities of the Operation LAFIYA Dole Theatre Command.
