Bandits kill 8 in Taraba

No fewer than eight people were Monday killed in Yowai community in Jalingo local government area of Taraba state by suspected Fulani herdsmen.

The attack which started Monday at Yowai community, later escalated to Yelwa village in Abare in Ardo-Kola local government area Tuesday night.

A resident of Yowai community, Paul Agnes, who spoke to Blueprint on the telephone, said the attackers invaded the village at about 1:48pm and started shooting sporadically.

“They came on motorcycles about 1:48pm and started shooting sporadically, and that led to the death of eight persons from the community,” she said.

She said several houses were also set ablaze by the attackers.

“Two persons were injured by the bandits. They are currently receiving treatment at the hospital,” Agnes further said.

When contacted, Taraba state Commissioner of Police Alkasim Sanusi, who confirmed the incident said the security operatives had been drafted to the affected areas to bring the situation under control.

He said normalcy had returned to the affected communities while investigation was still ongoing.
