Police arrest 5 suspected hoodlums in Jigawa

Jigawa Police Command says it has arrested five suspected hoodlums terrorising residents of Dutse.

The command’s Spokesman, SP Abdu Jinjiri, made this known in an interview with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Dutse on Thursday.

Jinjiri said the suspects were members of a group of hoodlums that had been terrorising women and other residents of the area.

He stated that the suspects allegedly operated in a tree plantation linking Danmasara village and Mopol Base quarters, where they ambushed women, robbed them of belongings and sexually harassed them.

He disclosed that the suspects were arrested at about 9 p.m. on Wednesday after the command had received several complaints about their activities in the area.

“The suspects have been hiding in a tree plantation in the area to attack passers-by, particularly women.

“They rob women of their belongings and sometimes sexually harassed them.

“They operate in groups; some rob while others sexually harass women.

“So finally, we were able to arrest five of them yesterday at about 9 p.m. after receiving several complaints about their activities in the area,” Jinjiri said.

He added that investigation into the case had begun and that the suspects would be prosecuted.
