But in a statement later on Saturday afternoon, the police said the military misfired its heavy artillery at the Maiduguri metropolis in attempt to repel attacks by Boko Haram terrorist in Jakana area of the state capital.

It was gathered that the artillery was misfired at Teachers Village IDPs, and no life was lost.

The other bomb exploded at Bolori area, killing a dog.

Demian Chukwu, Police Commissioner, who confirmed the attack said there was no cause for alarm.

Mr Chukwu said report reaching him was that the Boko Haram had attempted to infiltrate into the city through Jakana and the Military repelled the attack.

He therefore called on all qualified voters in the state to come out en masse to vote for candidates of their choice.
