Elections: Police assures electorate in riverside areas of adequate security
The Edo Command of the Nigerian Police Force has assured electorate in the riverine areas of the state of adequate protection and security as they go out to vote on Saturday.
Commissioner of Police DanMallam Mohammed gave the assurance after the “Show of Force” exercise by the combined team of security agencies in the state.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Friday’s demonstration was the third in the past eight days.
Represented by DSP Chidi Nwabuzor, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Mohammed said the demonstration was also being carried out in the air and on the waterways.
He explained that the exercise was to let the electorate know that the security agencies were ready for the general elections.
He, therefore, appealed to members of the public to come out en-masse on Saturday to vote candidates of their choice without any fear of molestation.
The Police Commissioner also said that sensitive materials for the general elections had been moved to the 18 local government areas of the state, with adequate security arrangements.
He commended other security agencies such as the NDLEA, Customs, DSS, NSCDC, Army, Immigration, Prison Service, and FRSC for their support since the beginning of the exercise.
