FCT fire service saves 147 lives, property worth N2.3bn in 2018

Mr Jerry Timveh, Public Relations Officer (PRO), Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Fire Service, said the organisation saved 147 lives and property worth N2.3 billion, from fire incidents, from January to December, 2018.

Timveh, made the disclosure in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday in Abuja.

He said that 17 lives were saved within the first quarter, while 16, were saved in the second quarter, 50 lives in the third quarter and 64 in the fourth quarter of the year under review.

Giving a breakdown on the worth of property recovered, he said the property saved in December had the highest value for the year, while March had the least value.

Timveh said that a total of 440 fire calls and 47 rescue calls were received from FCT residents within the period under review.

He restated the commitment and dedication of the officers who are always in the service control room to receive fire calls and offer immediate response to alerts.

NAN reports that major areas within the FCT, affected by inferno in the first and second quarters of 2018 were; kubwa, Asokoro and Gwarimpa.

The PRO urged FCT residents to be in control of their environment, by being alert and cautious to activities that could lead to fire outbreaks and result to loss of lives and property.

He advised residents to inculcate the habit of calling the fire service at first hand, in cases of fire incidents.
