Drugs are sold like groundnuts in Kano streets – Police

The Kano State Police Commissioner, Muhammad Wakili, has disclosed that hard drugs are being sold like groundnuts in the streets, warning the perpetrators to immediately stop the illicit act or face the wrath of “the new Sheriff in town.”

Addressing journalists in his office on Monday, shortly after assuming office, Mr Wakili also disclosed that the command had declared a full-scale war on drug abuse which, according to him, has become a scourge in the state.

The new CP stressed that he would not rest on his ores until he rids the state of drug peddlers, barons and other criminals.

Mr Wakili, therefore, called on traditional, religious and political leaders to join hands and cooperate with his command in curtailing the menace in the state.

Recall that Mr Wakili is the no-nonsense cop who appeared in a viral video speaking about the prevalence of drug abuse in the country.

He was recently posted to Kano State as the new commissioner of police replacing Rabiu Yusuf, who is yet to get a new posting.

It was gathered that Mr Wakili, who was one of the pioneer detectives at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has only three months to retire.

Mr Wakili’s dramatic gesticulation and affirmative tone in a video last year drew funny reactions on the Internet.

“Drug abuse is prevalent in the society,” he said in the video.

“Everywhere is drug abuse, everybody complains about drug abuse. Men abuse drugs, women abuse drugs, adult abuse drugs, children abuse drugs.”

Kano State often tops the chart of drug abuse in the country.

Insiders say the new commissioner police has the commitment and capacity to tackle the menace in the state.
