NAF inaugurates staff quarters in Abuja
Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, said current infrastructural development in Nigeria Air Force would be sustained to provide adequate accommodation for personnel and engender increased performance.
He stated this while inaugurating five newly-renovated buildings for Senior Non-Commissioned Officers (NCOs) at the NAF Base, Abuja.
In a statement by NAF Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Ibikunke Daramola, on Tuesday in Abuja, Abubakar said the quarters was part of NAF’s efforts at improving personnel welfare “for effective and efficient service delivery’’.
He said the blocks of flats, which had been in varying states of disrepair prior to his assumption of office were renovated to sustain maintenance culture and prudent management of resources.
According to Abubakar, who was represented by Director of Administration, NAF Headquarters, Air Vice Marshal Nelson Calmday, prior to July, 2015, records indicated that NAF had 45 per cent sufficiency of accommodation for personnel.

“However, as at December, 2018, accommodation sufficiency in the NAF had increased to 65 per cent with an additional three per cent of personnel receiving lodging allowances.’’
He noted that the 68 per cent accommodation sufficiency recorded within three and half years was achieved in spite of an unprecedented number of personnel, comprising 7, 500 airmen/airwomen and 400 officers recruited during the period.
The air chief urged the beneficiaries of the accommodation to put them to good use and ensure that they were properly maintained.
The statement also quoted Air Commodore Abubakar Yusuf, Commander 053 Headquarters, NAF Camp, as thanking the CAS for always placing premium on the welfare of personnel.
Yusuf said that welfare-related projects executed in Abuja included new NAF Base at Asokoro and new accommodation blocks at Bill Clinton Drive, NAF Base.
According to him, these actions have drastically reduced the accommodation challenges facing personnel in Abuja.
“As a result, virtually all airmen/airwomen who were formerly living in rented accommodation have been relocated into the barracks.’’
