Army inaugurates agent banking services in barracks

The Nigerian Army has inaugurated agent banking services for its personnel at the 20 Battalion barracks, Serti Baruwa in Gashaka Local Government Area of Taraba.

The Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai said the initiative would bring banking services closer to the personnel and their families.

Buratai also said it was part of the Federal Governments’ policy of financial inclusion for Nigerians.

According to him, the initiative is realised in partnership with the First Bank of Nigeria Plc through Nigerian Army Welfare Limited/Guarantee.

Earlier, the Group Managing Director of the Nigerian Army Welfare Limited/Guarantee (NAWL/G), Maj.-Gen. K. O. Kadiri noted that the Nigerian army was one of the few Federal Government institutions and the only service to key into the scheme.

Kadiri thanked the army chief for approving and funding the initiative.

He said the agent banking was introduced in the Nigerian army cantonments and barracks about six months ago.

The Group Managing Director of first bank, Dr Adesola Adeduntan, represented by Alhaji Shehu Aliyu, Group Executive Director Retail Banking (North), commended the army for the initiative.

Adeduntan said having devoted their entire life to providing security for citizens, “nothing is too good for personnel of the army and the military in general.’’
