Man reports self to police after killing Wife and 2 children in Edo

A 35-year-old man has been paraded by the police in Edo for allegedly killing his wife and two children.

The suspect, Uwaila Idehen, was among 110 suspected criminals paraded, yesterday, in Benin by the Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Olusegun Odumosu.

The CP said the suspects were arrested for various crimes ranging from cultism, armed robbery, kidnapping, child stealing, and defilement.

He disclosed that 52 of the suspects were arrested for cultism, saying that the command is now proactive through intelligence gathering which led to the arrest before the suspects could unleash mayhem.

Odumosu assured that the suspects would be charged to court after investigations.

Speaking with journalists, Idehen said though he had argument with his late wife, he did not know what pushed him to kill his family.

“I am 35 years old. We have been married for over 10 years. My wife had three children for me, a girl and two boys. The girl is six years, and the boys were three and two years old respectively.

“I don’t know what came over me, because I was not drunk. I am a tipper driver, due to the nature of my job, my wife always accused me of having affairs with other women, but it is not true,” he said.

He said “at times, when she sees me with my female customers, or when I come home late, she will accuse me of sleeping with other women but I always assured her that there was nothing like that.

“At one occasion, she said if I am going out with other women, she will also be going out with men and I told her it was a taboo. We later settled that and continued to live peacefully.

“On Sunday when I came home, she started another quarrel, but I only asked why she didn’t go to church and she started saying all kind of things. I don’t know what came over me.

“Instead of just leaving the house, I picked up my gun and it exploded. The bullet pierced through the plywood door and hit my wife and the two boys. The girl narrowly escaped,” he said.

He said “after the incident, I ask myself what I have done, I wanted to keep the gun in my wardrobe when it explode and I don’t know how manage it exploded.

“I then reported myself to the police that I killed my family. Where will I start from,” he said.
