Gunmen invade Kaduna community, kill 3

Three persons were shot dead in an attack  in Gwong, Jema’a local government area of Kaduna state, on Sunday night.

Peter Averik, the local government chairman, who confirmed the development to NAN, said the attack took place around 7:30pm.

He said the gunmen attacked some persons walking along a bridge.

“I was told the gunmen, who seemed to be advancing, opened fire on the pedestrians over fear that they may be exposed,” he said.

“One person died on the spot while two others who sustained injury were rushed to Fadan Kagoma Hospital where one of them died this morning following the magnitude of injury sustained.”

Averik said the third victim’s corpse was found earlier on Monday in a bush path at Wazo village before Aso.

He said arrangement had been concluded to convey the injured persons to Barau Diko Specialist Hospital in Kaduna.

Security personnel have since been drafted to the affected community, the chairman said, adding that the government would continue to ensure safety of lives and property.

Kaduna has been under series of attacks by bandits and gunmen in recent months.

Fifteen persons were recently killed when gunmen attacked Ungwan Pa’ah Gwandara village also in Jema’a.
