Mrs Chioma Obi, 26, was arraigned in an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for allegedly inflicting injuries on the body of a 12-year-old girl in her custody

According to the Prosecutor, ASP Ezekiel Ayorinde, the accused committed the offence on Dec. 5, 2018 at Ago, Okota, Lagos.

He said that the accused unlawfully assaulted the 12-year-old girl by flogging her with cane all over her body which inflicted injuries on her.

Mr Ayorinde said that the accused claimed that she beat the girl because she allegedly injured her son.

“The accused descended on the girl and flogged her mercilessly for allegedly injuring her 4-year-old boy on his leg.

“Neighbours, who saw those several deep cuts all over the girl’s body informed the police and the accused was arrested,’’ the prosecutor said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the offence, which violates Section 173 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015, carries three years jail term.

Obi, a trader and resident of Okota, Lagos, however, denied committing the offence.

Mrs Osunsanmi said that the sureties should be gainfully employed and show evidence of two years tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
