Anambra Governor Pardons 10 Prison Inmates
The executive governor of Anambra State Chief Dr. Willie Obiano has granted pardon to 10 inmates of Medium Security Prison Aguata during the pastoral visit of the Auxiliary Bishop of Awka Diocese Most Rev. Dr. JonasBenson Okoye today 9th December 2018.
The governor who was in attendance with the first lady, Chief Dr. (Mrs) Ebelechukwu Obiano, was the sponsor of the 20 inmates that received the sacrament of confirmation.
The governor who said that the pardon was his own way of celebrating the Christmas with the inmates charged the beneficiaries to reciprocate this gesture by shunning all forms of crime to avoid coming back to the prisons while admonishing the rest to be prayerful as they are the next in line for a miracle.
Bishop Okoye who administered the sacrament of confirmation to each of the 20 inmates charged them to show that they have been endued with the Holy Spirit by being true soldiers and ambassadors of Christ both in prison and after they’ve left the prison.
The Assistant Controller of Prisons incharge Aguata Mr. Ubenyi Patrick earlier in his welcome address thanked the governor for coming, and seized the opportunity to roll out some of the challenges bedevilling the prisons like bad access roads, power supply, vehicles,leaking roofs etc, for the governor to assist them.

Nwakeze Emmanuel corroborating the appeal of the officer incharge while officially welcoming the governor to the prisons added that the bad access road to the prisons and the lack of power supply is chief on the challenges and prayed him to URGENTLY come the prisons assistance.
Chief Obiano while responding, promised to give the prison any capacity transformer that the EEDC will propose for the facility after a check on it. He went further to direct the commissioner for works to mobilize for the immediate grading of the access road to the prison as a starting point. Again he directed the chief of staff to release a bus to the Controller of Prisons on Wednesday for Aguata prison.
The first lady on her own part gave the prison Five hundred thousand naira(#500,000), 50 tubers of yam, 5 bags of rice, toiletries, malt drinks and over 9 coolers of properly cooked food for the inmates.
One of the beneficiaries of the pardon Ogechi Joseph who was also among the beneficiaries of the sacrament of confirmation thanked God and the governor for a double Christmas package.
Dignitaries in attendance includes Reverend Fathers, Secretary to the state government, Chief of Staff, commissioners and other government functionaries.
Others include the traditional ruler of Ekwulobia HRH Igwe E.C. Onyeneke,and his cabinet,NGOs, and inmates relatives.
Highlights of the occasion includes the cutting of Christmas cake by the Governor assisted by the wife, Controller of Prisons and other notable personalities.
