GOC Leads 295 Officers, Soldiers on Enugu Route March
The 82 Division Nigerian Army has effectively conducted a 15 kilometres route march in
Enugu city in the early hours of today Friday the 7th of December 2018.
The exercise which started by 0600 hours and ended by 0830 hours, took off from Abakpa Cantonment through Okpara Avenue, via Ebeano -tunnel, Atisan Market, Ogui Junction and back to Abakpa Cantonment.
It should be recalled that the Nigerian Army (NA)routine monthly route march is an exercise that was introduced by the Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Tukur Yusuf Buratai. The major objective of the exercise is to ensure that Nigerian Army personnel keep fit and are physically and mentally sound to enable them squarely face the contemporary and emerging security challenges facing the nation.
As at today, the route march has been fully institutionalized and is now a scheduled NA physical training exercise that all formations and units are expected to conduct at the end of every month.
Consequently, in obedience to the Chief of Army Staff directive, the 82 Division has successfully, today, carried out the end of the year route march exercise in Enugu.
The General Officer Commanding the Division, Major General Emmanuel Kabuk personally led the exercise.
In his address to the troops after the route march, the GOC emphasized on the necessity for all officers and soldiers of the Division to always keep fit which is the desire and emphatic directive of the COAS. According to him “officers and soldiers of this Division must always keep fit not only through the route march but also by observing early morning physical training and evening games as stipulated by the NA”.
A total of 240 soldiers and 55 0fficers participated in the exercise. 21 serving Corp members of the Division have also optionally took part in the march.
